As a nod to August as World Breastfeeding Month, Zomee hosted an end of summer soiree at Edgewater’s One Tribe, a resource for pre and post-natal moms rooted in education, wellness, movement and a like minded mission to empower women throughout their unique motherhood journey.
With One Tribe’s curated selection of top experts in physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, lactation, sleep, nutrition, and more, it was the ideal destination to celebrate World Breastfeeding Month, the end of summer, and a shared commitment to support mothers holistically while crystalizing community and connection.
The day began with a prenatal yoga and Pilates class, followed by a breastfeeding support session led by Zomee’s Founder and CEO, Dina Shanowitz-Rendler. Attendees then enjoyed a mommy-baby dance class, along with opportunities for socializing, shopping, and indulging in delicious coffee and croissants from Pura Vida.

In light of World Breastfeeding Awareness Month we had the opportunity to ask the expert on the subject, Dina Shanowitz-Rendler a few questions about breastfeeding, motherhood, business and juggling it all while being a mom of five.

What does world breastfeeding month mean to you and Zomee?
DSR: World Breastfeeding Month means so much to me, both as a mom who struggled with breastfeeding and as the founder of Zomee. I know firsthand how hard breastfeeding can be—it’s a huge sacrifice, and for so many moms, it can feel isolating and overwhelming. I also know what it’s like to feel judged or embarrassed for doing something as natural as feeding your baby. This month is about changing that narrative. It’s about celebrating the beauty of breastfeeding and reminding every mom that what they’re doing is normal, natural, and truly amazing. At Zomee, we want to create spaces and events where moms can feel supported and empowered, knowing they’re not alone on this journey.
What inspired you to start Zomee?
DSR: Breastfeeding was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. My baby was in the NICU, had tongue-tie, and on top of that, I was dealing with inverted nipples. I had to exclusively pump for a whole year, and the pump I was using made everything even harder. I struggled every single day to get letdowns, and releasing milk felt like a battle. I was determined not to give up. I wanted to give my baby the nourishment only breast milk could provide, so I decided to create my own pump. I poured everything into it—adding alternate mode technology to help each breast react to the other for extra stimulation, making those letdowns finally happen. I also created a nipple correction mode because I knew the pain and frustration of trying to pump with inverted or flat nipples, but it wasn’t just about making a better pump. I wanted to make sure other moms wouldn’t have to go through what I did, so I worked to get these pumps fully covered by insurance. No mom should have to worry about the cost when she’s already giving everything she’s got to care for her baby. I just want to make breastfeeding a little bit easier and a lot less stressful for every mom out there.
Why did you choose One Tribe as the destination for the end of summer soiree?
DSR: In many ways, One Tribe and Zomee are kindred spirits. Both Emilie (Founder & CEO of One Tribe) and I went through challenging times as new moms—whether it was struggling with breastfeeding or navigating difficult pregnancies. We know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to find the right support and resources when you’re just trying to do what’s best for your baby. That’s why both of our companies are here, to make this journey a little easier for other moms. Whether it’s through a centralized platform of resources or innovative, insurance-covered breast pumps, we’re both committed to empowering and supporting moms so they don’t have to face the same struggles we did.
What advice do you have for new moms who are nervous about their breastfeeding journey?
DSR: It’s totally normal to feel nervous about breastfeeding, especially if it’s your first time. Here are some pieces of advice that might help:
-Learn Ahead: Read up on breastfeeding to boost your confidence
-Seek Support: Connect with friends, lactation consultants, or support groups.
-Be Patient: It takes time for both you and your baby to get the hang of it.
-Trust Yourself: Listen to your instincts and your baby’s cues.
-Take Care of Yourself: Rest, stay hydrated, and eat well.
-Ask for Help: Reach out if you’re struggling.
-Celebrate Small Wins: Every success is a step forward.
-Be Kind to Yourself: It’s okay if things aren’t perfect—your best is enough!
As a mother of five, what’s some helpful advice you have for the modern mom like you who is busy juggling it all!
DSR: I can tell you that juggling it all is a real balancing act. Finding time for self-care and sticking to routines are lifesavers, but the key is knowing when to ask for help—don’t be afraid to lean on family or friends when you need a hand! One tool that’s truly been a game-changer for me is the Zomee Fit. With a 3-month-old baby and two energetic boys aged 3 and 5, I needed something that would help me streamline my routine. The Zomee Fit is a wearable pump with hospital-grade strength and a 2-phase mode that mimics natural breastfeeding. Plus, it has a smart sensor that stops pumping at the exact ounce I need. This means I can focus on chasing after my little ones and savoring our time together, instead of being tied down to a pump. Creating the Zomee Fit was my response to the chaos that comes with managing multiple kids. I knew there had to be a better way to blend efficient pumping with the demands of a busy family life. The result? A solution that helps me stay connected with my kids while still meeting my breastfeeding goals.
